Surfing Somo French Win European SUP Surfing Championship

Europe crowned its 2014 SUP surfing champions recently at the 2014 European SUP Surfing Championships October 18 and 19, at Playa de Somo in Cantabria, Spain.

After a full weekend of highly competitive paddle surfing with some of the best competitors from across Europe, the French exercised their expertise in wave riding, winning each of the three divisions to completely sweep the competition.

Caroline Angibaud took the women’s win ahead of the Canary Islands’ standout SUP surfer Iballa Ruano Moreno, as well as fellow French competitor and Junior division second place finisher Maili Tahar.

On the men’s side, Alexis Deniel surfed to a victory ahead of a strong competitive field that was dominated by French, including men’s second place finisher and Junior division champion, Benoit Carpentier, as well as Mederic Berthe, who rounded out the top three places.
