Guardamar del Segura medieval Castle near Alicante Spain
The medieval town and its castle of Arab origin can be visited free of charge, but after the earthquake of 1829 not much remained of this once beautifully situated town.
The upper part, which is separated from the lower part by a visible ridge, housed the castle, and below it was the old town.

The lower part of Guardamar castle is surrounded by a Gothic wall and was significantly rebuilt in the 16th century.

Guardamar castle remains found show that Phoenicians were active in the area as early as the 8th century B.C. – this also coincides with my research for another film about the region, the Cabezo Pequeno de Estano where the Phoenicians mined metal on a larger scale.
Archaeological excavations of Guardamar castle are still underway at both the fortress here and the Iron Age site.

The city and its fortress have been under Phoenician, then Iberian, then Roman, then Islamic and then Christian control.
After the earthquake of 1829, it was decided to rebuild the city around the old site, using the stones of the previous city.

At the top of Guardamar castle area there is still a lonely and abandoned cannon from the heyday of the city which still points threateningly to the sea.
River Segura
When looking at the site, one must take into account that the river Segura was once navigable for several kilometers inland.
Once again, I am disappointed with the quality of the DJI Osmo Mobile 3 handheld gimbal – a stable image looks different in my opinion.
But I looked again, the Mobile 3 is still praised in the tests in 2022, I wonder quite honestly why.
Since the recordings with the Insta360 One X2 are in my opinion a lot more stable. Thank you for watching our video.

The ancient Guardamar castle Castillo de Guardamar del Segura sits on top of a rocky hill that protects the city of Guardamar del Segura, and with panoramic views of the bay and the surrounding countryside.
The Guardamar medieval castle itself from the 12th century, was badly destroyed during the earthquake of 1829, was originally built by the Arabs and then reconstructed many times between the 14th and 17th centuries by various kings of Castile and Aragon.
Now Guardamar medieval castle the remains of the ancient fortress are included in the Register of Historical Heritage of Spain.
