Castle built on top of Mount San Julián under the mandate of Carlos III, after recovering the city from the English, with the aim of enclosing within its walls the circular tower that the latter had built in 1706 after the conquest of Cartagena in the War of Succession.
Its mission was to defend the top of the mountain on which it sits and dominate the mouth of the port.
Was completed in 1888, being reformed and enlarged several times and serving, during the Civil War, as a prison for high military commanders.

It was owned by the State although it currently belongs to the Telefónica company that has numerous antennas installed on it.
Despite this, it has been declared an Asset of Cultural Interest.

The fort remains intact today, but it is in a rather dilapidated state.

Murcia does not boast a large City centre but what it lacks in size it more than makes up for in appearance.
It is cleaner than many Spanish Cities. It has some striking buildings, all located within walking distance of each other. Also has some of the smartest City centre shops.
