Pantheon of the Duchess of Sevillano

The building has a floor plan shaped like a greek cross, and it is built in stone from Novelda.

The iconic dome is covered with purple tiles.

The interior of the building displays works by Alejandro Ferrant (a painting on the high altar) and bronze and marble sculptures by Ángel García Díaz [es], including the four angels flanking the sarcophagus in the pantheon’s crypt.

The design of the vault inspired a number of works by Velázquez Bosco’s disciple Antonio Palacios.

The buildings works ended in 1916, the year in which the Countess died.

Visit to the Palacio de la Cotilla and the Chinese tea room (Group price: €1).

Palacio de la Cotilla

The Palace of La Cotilla was first built in the 17th century, as revealed to this day by the columns in the courtyard, which are in Alcarreño style.

At the end of the 19th century, the owners were the Marqueses of Villamejor, Ana de Torres and Ignacio de Figueroa, the parents of the Count of Romanones.

The Chinese Room dates from that period, and boasts to this day its original Qing dynasty style wallpaper.

Visit to the Mudejar Co-Cathedral of Guadalajara

Mudejar Co-Cathedral of Guadalajara

Santa María Co-Cathedral was built on the site of a mosque. It underwent its last renovation in the 17th century.

It is Mudejar in style and was refurbished in the 17th century.

The main altar is very beautiful. Inside, the church has three naves from the 14th century.

The main façade has a doorway with Renaissance columns and capitals.

The other doors have horseshoe arches.

The tower is masonry-built and finished with brick. Inside, there is an interesting alabaster pulpit and some tombs.

The interior arches are semi-circular. The dome over the transept was built in the 17th century.

 Visit to the Infantado Palace

The Mendoza family, the bearers of the title of dukes of El Infantado, embodied all their power in this building, which is the most representative property in their possession.

The original building, in the Gothic style with numerous Mudéjar details, was commissioned by the second Duke of the Infantado and built by Juan Guas, who began it in 1480.

Later, the fifth Duke would adapt it to Renaissance tastes in 1569, adding balconies to the façade and replacing the columns on the ground floor of the Courtyard of the Lions.

He also commissioned Romulo Cincinato to create frescos in various rooms; some of these paintings still survive as a unique testament to the splendour of these apartments.

The palace was almost destroyed by a bombardment in 1936, and its most representative elements, the Courtyard of the Lions, the façade, and the Garden Gallery, were restored between 1961 and 1973.

It is now the home of the Museum of Guadalajara.
