Calete De Fuste is a popular tourist destination on the Canarian island of Fuerteventura. With a temperate climate temperatures remain constant throughout the year and it is an ideal place to grab some winter sun.

Really fun way to see the resort is on the mini train service. This runs frequently from 10AM – 6PM and stops at various helpful points around the resort. It costs €2 for adults and €1.50 for children.
Train service operates from the Barcelo Beach Resort near the harbour, through Caleta, past the Barcelo Hotel Hotel, to the market and up the hill to the Montecastillo Center and Fuerteventura Beach Club, and then along to the Atlantico Center.

Caleta and Fuerteventura in 1987 35 years ago I had my first holiday in Fuerteventura and videoed it (on my huge VHS video camera).
I hope people will enjoy seeing what Fuerteventura in the 80s was like.

We spent two weeks in a little bungalow on the Cay Beach Villas complex (probably called something different then).
The swimming pool in the Castillo Beach Bungalows opened while we were there so we also used that.
Shops and restaurants
The only shops and restaurants were in the now demolished square by the Castillo tower.
There were about three restaurants and a couple of shops so there was little choice.
There were no hotels apart from the Barcelo by the harbour, no golf courses and Chipmunk mountain was just an empty hill.
Fortunately I had hired a car so we travelled around and found the lovely beaches near Corralejo and Jandia.
Otherwise I probably would never have come back to Fuerteventura as the Caleta beach was just as bad as it is these days.
Airport
You can also see the airport as it was then.
When we arrived I remember that the luggage carousels weren’t yet working so we had to claim our bags out the front of the terminal from the little baggage “train”.
I may have some more old home movies 80’s style somewhere.
