PARGA GREECE IN OFF SEASON – WATERMILL LAND TRAIN TRIP BEAUTIFUL CASTLE SUNSET

We pre booked the land train trip to the watermills the day before down by the booth next to the main beach.

The trip started at 12pm and took just under 2hrs.

It was really great, we had a guide who told us all about the local history and it was nice travelling by train up into the mountains with stunning views across the region.

Later that evening, we rushed over to the caste in readiness for sunset.

We explored all over the castle and watched the skies turn into beautiful orange as the sunset.

We stayed up at the castle until it got dark and then walked over to Med Parga restaurant for our best meal of the whole holiday! Definitely recommend going here. Then we walked back to out hotel from drinks at the bar.

Ali Pasha Castle – Region Epirus – Parga – Mainland Greece

A castle built by Ali Pasha of Ioannina in 1814 above the village Anthousa nearby Parga in the region Epirus. Have Fun!

Parga Tourist Train

A castle or fortress much of it in ruins, but it remains a nice place to visit anyway. From the top you can see other villages near Parga, Corfu on a clear day, and the fortress of Parga which Ali Pasha tried to shoot with his cannons.

Here you will often find an old lady occasionally sells delicious herbs and spices (such as mint, herbal tea, oregano and different spice blends), so have some small change with you.
She’s very charming and likes to talk with you but not a word of English.

From the fortress take a walk down to Parga through the orchards and forests of olive trees. The walk is a few kilometres long and walking downhill can be a strain to your knees.

Alternatively, an easier visit would be to climb the hill aboard the Parga Tourist Train, which departs every half an hour from the road in front of Krioneri Beach (Parga town centre).
The same Parga Tourist Train will take you back down the hill, and the round-trip will not take more than 3 hours.
