Cockroaches in Spain

Cockroaches prefer to shelter in narrow cracks and crevices.
Check behind refrigerators, under sinks, and in dark drawers or cabinets.
They forage for food at night, eating a wide variety of foods and non-food materials. This allows them to survive even in clean homes.

Starting Point

Cockroaches

Prevention of Cockroaches in Spain is a large part of keeping cockroaches at bay
Your first job should be each year to spray outside all window and doors around the edges.

Personally I believe that this should be about three times a year. Plus if we have a terrific Summer down poor one needs to re-establish around doors and windows.

A lot of people often also spray around suspect areas on a regular basis

The photo above is of a Cockroaches in Spain that has successfully entered a building that has been sprayed on the outside and then managed to find an entry point indoors such as a skirting, but by now has come into contact with the spray and it is is on it’s back rather dead or at the best just dying.

Taking Action Indoors Blocking them

If you are experiencing regular visits by Cockroaches then you need to find their points of entry into your living area.

The above photo is the top of a free standing kitchen unit, it is about seven foot high so completely out of sight unless you stand on a ladder.
If you look closely you can see the two black lines where the fitters had not sealed as it was out of sight.
This had given cockroaches a rather major entry point. So fill with mastic to keep them out so as one eliminates them

Skirting areas

Cockroaches in Spain seem to be able to find any little gap that is available between the tiling and the skirting boards.

Under the Kitchen sink

Cockroaches

Cockroaches in Spain love to find dampish areas and this can often be associated with areas under the sink.
Look and check very carefully that there are not any possible routs they can find and if found seal with mastic.

They love to get in at this point as normally food cupboards are fairly close by and they tend to hide in the dark corners at the back of such places

The Bathroom

Bathrooms are about the wettest room in the home, hence cockroaches tend to try and find a route in if possible.

So make sure that there is not anywhere the can get in from. The only need a gap the thickness of a piece of paper.

A favourite entry spot for Cockroaches in Spain can be the base of the toilet.

Taking Action outside Blocking them

Cockroaches
Aircon Unit

When installers finish they often leave tiny little possible entry areas that are not sealed as tightly as they could be.

Or possible the unit has been installed for quite a few years and the filling around the pipes is now starting to break up.

So cockroaches seem to detect that this is a nice dark place to hide and even possible find food with their rather strong smell sense

If getting up to some of these outside spots is proving difficult all is not lost, just find their point of entry on your premises and make very sure that they are well and truly sealed with mastic.

Remember Cockroaches in Spain can crawl through the very smallest of gaps. If it is the size of a pinhead then they could get through OR the thickness of a piece of paper when dealing with skirtings.

Air vents

Air Vent

Most properties have at least one air vent around the outside of the home. These can be a direct entry point for Cockroaches in Spain. You need to check if the mosquito netting behind the panel is still OK, or even if there any netting in place at all.

Television Cable points

Cockroaches

Lots of older buildings have more than one an entry point for TV. often now partly used or just an old system that a previous owner had used. These are notoriously entry points for non welcome visitors like Cockroaches in Spain, as the original filling for wires has now perished.

An unexpected point of entry is the window?

Well yes but I will always remember a friend telling me that at the end of the summer they were just people watching sitting quietly and one of them was sure she has seen movement on the window frame,

So they watched for a good fifteen minutes and low an behold the antlers appeared then slowly the rest of the body of a huge cockroach they could hardly believe there eyes.

Now days they use Oro on the frames just in case.

Why Cockroaches Are So Hard To Kill

Cockroaches eliminating them

Cockroaches are one of the most widespread and resilient creatures on this planet. They are practically everywhere around us, hiding in the walls, sewers, and perhaps your cupboard.

They are also one of the most hated creatures by humans.

If you are like most people, you will become determined to kill all of the roaches when you see them in your house.

Despite such hatred towards them, how do cockroaches manage to thrive all around the globe?

How To Get Rid Of Cockroaches

Cockroaches eliminating them

We had a very bad problem with roaches in my apartment that was made worse by them coming from other apartments in my building.
I got rid of them 5 years ago and haven’t seen one since.

My advice is to get Borax and spray it very thinly in areas you know they frequent ( a plastic mustard bottle works perfectly). Also make sure to clean and preferable paint over your inside cupboards where they have left their droppings and scent.

Thirdly get some roach gel that comes in a small toothpaste type tube. It’s very powerful stuff and is a great compliment to Borax.

Fourthly if you’re really serious about never having them return get some Insect Growth Regulator.

It comes in very concentrated form, you add it to water according to the directions and you spray it where the roaches nest or any other area you’ve seen a lot of them.

The IGR will neuter the baby roaches so they can’t reproduce.

If you follow these steps you’ll be able to conquer even the worst infestation Permanently!

Yes, bats do eat cockroaches. In fact, bats are known to eat a variety of insects, including cockroaches. Cockroaches are not the only thing that bats eat though; they also consume moths, mosquitoes, and other small insects. While some people may think that bats eating cockroaches is gross, it is actually a good thing.
