After the Power cut outrage on 28th April 2025

What I have been trying to do is discover people who had a battery installed on their system, who, when the power cut happened, managed to carry on as if nothing had happened, ie did they had an inverter click them over the battery?

I recently started my journey of discovery when I realised other locals had not been affected.❓

But found that not all who had a battery had succeeded in being OK. One person living close to us, was one that had a battery but seemed to of been connected incorrectly, they went down.

Another person across the road from us has friends who just live a few roads from us, did not even realise that there was an outrage, as their system was connected correctly.⁉️

So I tried to find out what was needed to not have it happen to us in the future?

Below is what we had carried out onto our property.

New extra Solar panel to help keep us safe

So they added 2 extra panels to the roof to give a larger production for battery charging.

They then added a 10kw Growatt Battery system with a Battery management system.

Then coupled the existing inverter and battery system to a Growatt Back Up Box which now powers the house directly.

This is different to a Solar System with an EPS (Emergency Power Supply) which only provides power to Critical loads such as lights and refrigeration systems.

This system effectively put the house “Off Grid” so you are powered by the Solar and batteries.

If the batteries are fully discharged the system switches back to the grid supply. In the event of a Power Outage, the whole house will have power, not just an EPS circuit.

When we first went over onto solar it was just as below and with 7 Solar panels on the roof 4 at the back and 3 on the front of the building

Above is the original system before converting and upgrading.
After installing this our bills were down to under 50 euros per month.

So after the power outrage in May 2025 we decided to make ourselves a lot safer, just in case there were more power outrages to come.
So we updated our solar system for power outage resilience, in the future.

We incorporated battery storage and potentially upgraded by adding an inverter to our hybrid model.

A hybrid inverter can manage both solar panels and batteries, automatically switching to battery power during an outage.

This ensures your home can still draw power from your solar panels and batteries without interruption during a grid outage.
