Gata de Gorgos Handbags locally made Handbags Come visit the Museum and Factory
María Soler and her Handbag Company are at the very forefront of the Spanish Export Industry.
Visit her factory and new museum to learn more about the ancient crafts of Spain and see the products that are being exported worldwide.
María Soler is a descendant of a family which has been working in the manufacture of bags and accessories since 1880.
As well as being a talented textile designer María is everything you would expect of a modern European business woman. She is driven, educated, and knows what her company needs to do in order to thrive.
Whilst naturally influenced by her artisan family, the traditional workshops that she grew up in, and by the responsibility of carrying on the family business, Soler Handbags is embracing the demands of modern day consumers by using many kinds of different materials such as raffia, plastic, ecological leather, cotton and producing ‘green’ products by using environmentally friendly materials which do no harm to the environment.
Gata de Gorgos Handbags
“Every day we are focused on design and fashion” says María “yes, we still use the traditional materials like straw and raffia sometimes, because we never want to lose the roots of the company which manufactured palm and straw baskets for decades, but our growth, and the challenge of exporting to other countries has influenced us to use materials like canvas, skins, pvc, vinyl and organic textile materials as well.”
The Museum
The museum is the perfect place for anyone to broaden their knowledge about Spain, to become involved in history for a short while, to enjoy an audio screen presentation in English, to see beautiful handbags and learn how they were made, and to see the designs, patterns and products that are already taking on the world.
Soler Handbags already exports to many countries including Japan, France, Germany, and last year had a large order from the USA. Its success is testament to María’s self-confessed taste for things well done.
The museum is a fun and educational experience, a perfect place to visit whether you live here full time, or have relatives visiting and want to do something traditional with them.
Only 11km further down the road is the wonderful Jalon valley with its beautiful scenery, vineyards, bodegas and wineries, so why not make a day of it and head there afterwards.
The Museum opens 10am to 2pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. It has lots of parking outside, and is easy to find at Carretera Jalon No 70, Gata de Gorgos.
